Wealth-tech onboarding
A lot of first-time investors drop off during KYC, after they have already decided to invest. I want to understand which steps lose them, and which ones we could cut.
Hi, I am Charan. I studied electronics at NIT Calicut and wrote software at Thermo Fisher for a year. Then I did an MBA at IIM Udaipur, because I wanted a say in what we built and why. I have been in fintech since: first at Zolve, working on credit cards for people who had just moved to the US, and now at FundsIndia, on how people invest in mutual funds. Almost everyone has some connection to money, and most people think twice before every step. I want them to feel calm, trust the platform, and understand what is happening. Outside work, I am usually playing or watching cricket.
Questions I keep coming back to, at work and outside it. I do not have neat answers yet.

At Zolve I saw how differently two countries treat the same product: different rules, different payment rails, different habits. I am curious what should change when a product crosses a border, and what should not.
Most of the effort goes into someone's first investment. I am more interested in the second and third, and in the people who stop without ever telling you why.

The biggest thing I have worked on so far.
Case study · FundsIndiaI led the redesign of the mutual fund flows in the FundsIndia app: finding a fund, adding it to a cart, paying, and redeeming. We moved all of it onto one design system. The main goal was fewer people having to call support to finish something basic.
Read the case studyIf something here made you think, or you think I got it wrong, I would like to hear it. Send a message or book a call.
I read everything and reply within a couple of days.
The part of this job I like most is when someone does something they were nervous about, like their first investment, and it turns out to be easy. I build for that moment .
