The four years

I studied electronics and communication: signal processing, communication systems, and more late-night coding than the syllabus asked for.

The thing I still use is breaking a big, messy problem into pieces small enough to think about. Most of product work is that.

What I took away

• Enough programming to land my first job, at Thermo Fisher.
• Getting comfortable with problems that do not make sense at first.
• Friends I still send my riskiest ideas to before anyone else sees them.
